The committee approved development application D/2025/1160 for the full facade and structural remediation and reconstruction of the Reserve Bank of Australia building at 65 Martin Place, Sydney. The motion was carried on an alternative recommendation, seconded by the Deputy Lord Mayor.
The chair said the committee approved an application last August for the removal of hazardous building materials, and that a further application will be lodged for the internal fit-out of the building.
An officer told the committee the works are designed to faithfully reconstruct the original 1960s design, including a replacement roof pavilion.
The committee also carried the staff recommendation on the planning proposal for special entertainment precincts. The chair said the proposal will go on public exhibition after it has been to council.
A resident asked the committee to remove a pocket including 16 to 30 Vine Street from the proposed precinct, saying a late-night entertainment precinct would be incompatible with the residential setting.
